Genuine, compatible and counterfeit filters

What each one is, which one we sell, and how to check any filter.

By the H2O Buddy team · Updated Oct 7, 2026 · 3 minute read
THE SHORT ANSWER

A genuine filter is sold under the brand on your system or fridge. A compatible filter is made by another company to fit the same housing. A counterfeit copies a brand's logo and box.

Everything we sell is made by Waterdrop, and the maker is named on every page.

The three kinds

GENUINESold under the brand on your unit

Usually the highest price.

COMPATIBLEMade by another company to fit

Built to fit the same housing. A good one names its maker and lists its certifications.

COUNTERFEITA fake that copies a brand

Copied logos and boxes. Hard to spot from photos.

What we sell

Every filter and system we sell is made by Waterdrop. If you own a Waterdrop system, Waterdrop filters are the brand's own filters for it. Our fridge filters are compatible replacements made by Waterdrop. They are not parts made by your fridge brand, and we say so on every page.

How to check any filter

  • Find the exact certification standard on the box or product page, like a numbered NSF/ANSI standard.
  • Look it up in the certifier's public listing.
  • Buy from a seller who names the maker.
Watch for counterfeits. If a "genuine" filter costs far less than everywhere else, be careful. Buy from a seller who names who made it.
